Spirit Level

Podcast Production
About the project

Overview: Editing a two-part Christmas special for Spirit Level, their podcast.

The Wellness Foundry approached me to edit their two-part Christmas special for their podcast Spirit Level. Each episode was approximately 45 minutes to an hour long and needed to be delivered as polished videos for YouTube and formatted audio for other streaming platforms.

The project needed to retain the cosy, conversational feel of their existing episodes to ensure continuity and avoid any indication of a different production approach.

Client: The Wellness Foundry
Date: 2024

The Challenge

  • The podcast assets were unavailable and had to be sourced and re-edited from existing episodes.

  • Editing for multiple platforms meant optimising the content for both video and audio without losing quality or the intimate tone of the discussions.

  • A tight turnaround time to deliver the episodes before the holiday season, ensuring they could be uploaded and shared across platforms in time.

The Solution
I approached the project with a focus on maintaining the client’s unique brand voice while ensuring the episodes met their standards. Key steps included:

  1. Visual & Audio Enhancement

    • Edited the raw footage to create seamless episodes, removing unnecessary pauses or errors while preserving the natural flow of the conversation.

    • Balanced audio levels to ensure clarity and consistency across all platforms.

  2. Client Collaboration

    • Shared drafts via the client’s cloud file system to facilitate easy access to episodes and assets.

    • Sent episodes to the client for review and approval, making necessary revisions based on their feedback.

  3. Episode Structure

    • Inserted Wellness Foundry adverts at natural breaks within the episodes, ensuring they aligned with the tone and flow of the discussions.

The Result
The Spirit Level Christmas special was delivered successfully within just four days, meeting the tight deadline and ensuring the episodes were ready for a timely release.

Both episodes maintained the cosy, conversational feel of the podcast, with seamless edits that ensured continuity and no indication of different production approaches. The integration of Wellness Foundry adverts at natural breaks enhanced the professionalism and monetisation of the episodes.

By using the client’s cloud file system for efficient sharing and collaboration, feedback and revisions were quickly actioned, resulting in episodes that met all expectations. The client was highly satisfied with the process and the final deliverables, which upheld the quality of their podcast brand.
